Stage 1 - Traditional


Companies at this stage have characteristics such as:
  • rarely (i.e. less than 15% of exchanges) exchange data electronically with customers or supply chain partners
  • manually manage engineering drawings on traditional media
  • don't have a clear and commonly agreed approach to PDM
  • don't understand that product definition information is a valuable corporate asset
  • may be piloting an PDM system
  • haven't defined the information needed for product development
  • don't know what the product development workflow is
  • have manual release and change management
  • have many stand-alone databases in each department
  • don't have configuration management
  • haven't integrated PDM to other computer systems
