All companies go through four stages of PDM progress. The characteristics of these stages are described here. First though, a few words to define what is meant by 'PDM'. Acronym soup PDM is used here as an acronym for Product Data Management. Related acronyms include EDM, EDMS, PIM, PDMS, TDM and TIM. Please feel free to mentally replace PDM in the following text by your preferred acronym. Definition In many industries the objective of PDM is to manage product definition data and associated processes across the product lifecycle. In some industries, particularly process industries, the objective is to manage plant definition data and associated processes across the plant lifecycle.
