We'll be able to increase revenues in all sorts of ways EDM/PDM will allow us to make better proposals which will lead to more sales. Engineers won't waste their time on data retrieval and management activities, so they will have more time available for value-adding, revenue-generating activities. By improving product structure management, EDM/PDM will enable more customer-specific variants, so we will be able to increase the range of products that customers can buy. EDM/PDM will help us increase product quality. As a result, we'll be able to increase the price paid by customers for products and services. By increasing product quality, EDM/PDM will allow customers to dispense with second sourcing. This will allow us to increase the number of products of a particular type that we can sell to a customer. We've read that most companies lose about 10-15% of their customers each year through poor quality service. By increasing product and service quality, EDM/PDM will help us increase the percentage of customers re-ordering. By helping us get products to market faster and more frequently, EDM/PDM will increase the frequency with which customers buy, and so increase revenues. By allowing us to develop and deliver products faster, it will help us get customers to pay sooner - and improve our cash flow. Use of EDM/PDM will help reduce costs EDM/PDM will help us reduce costs all the way along the product life cycle. The EDM/PDM system will help us reduce the number of errors we make, so we'll be able to reduce unwanted engineering changes. We'll reduce scrap, rework, erroneous order and manufacture of parts, obsolete parts, penalty costs, warranty costs, recall parts, and product liability costs. Currently, engineers waste a lot of time on data retrieval and management activities. Once a system can do this work for them, they will have more time available for value-adding activities, so fewer engineers will be needed. The EDM/PDM system will carry out a lot of the paper-shuffling, data re-entry, data formatting, and administrative work that is currently carried out by indirects - administrators, supervisors, clerks, managers, checkers, information managers, filing staff, data entry clerks, inspectors, documenters, BOM conversion staff, and manufacturing clerks. As a result, fewer people will be needed for these tasks, so we'll be able to reduce overhead costs. The EDM/PDM system will provide better information for manufacturing, allowing people to take better decisions that will lead to reduced manufacturing costs. Through better designs we'll be able to reduce material and energy costs. The EDM/PDM system will provide more accurate and more detailed information, allowing people to negotiate better prices for purchased products and services. By providing information for rationalization and standardization, the EDM/PDM system will reduce the costs of holding finished inventory and work in progress. Examination of the detailed descriptions of all the parts and products in the system will show many similarities and the possibility to reduce the number of parts. Similarly EDM/PDM will help us reduce the costs of equipment and tooling. The EDM/PDM system will act as a central repository and infrastructure for the company's engineering data. Some of our existing computer systems, interfaces and databases will no longer be needed. As a result we'll reduce the costs of computer and software development, acquisition and maintenance. We'll increase profits By helping us increase revenues and reduce costs, EDM/PDM will help us increase profits. We'll have more customers EDM/PDM will allow us to increase the range of products we can develop and support. The extended range will attract new customers. EDM/PDM will help us to offer better customer service EDM/PDM will support all phases of the product development process from the identification of customer requirements to field service. EDM/PDM will allow us to get the right information to people when they need it, enabling them to provide better, on-time customer service. The EDM/PDM system will allow us to increase the range of services available to customers. With much of the overhead burden removed by the EDM/PDM system, engineers will have more time available for responding to customers. At the front end of the process, EDM/PDM will help us manage customer requirements, and product and process specifications. It will help us make use of existing knowledge and re-use existing parts. Out in the field, EDM/PDM will provide engineers with the information they need to support customers' products, so they'll be able to respond better. We'll be able to communicate better with suppliers The EDM/PDM system will allow us to transfer information to suppliers quickly and cheaply. We'll use electronic information transfer instead of the slow, expensive and error-ridden communication of paper-based information. We'll increase productivity With EDM/PDM, we'll reduce overhead costs and non-value-adding activities. We'll increase output yet our costs will decrease. The result will be a significant gain in productivity. EDM/PDM will stimulate re-engineering of our processes Implementation of EDM/PDM will force people to address workflow and the use of engineering data in the engineering process. Once they start looking at the process in detail they'll see it is extremely ineffective. There'll soon be pressure from management to re-engineer the entire product development process with the aim of achieving major performance improvement. |
