EDM/PDM WORKSHOPS AND SYMPOSIUMS

International EDM/PDM Symposium 98
September 22-23, 1998
Heidelberg, Germany
Background
EDM/PDM is a technology of strategic importance to major industrial companies, but is currently implemented only by a few companies and rarely has more than a limited impact.

Many companies are now questioning how they should best implement and use EDM/PDM, but the answers to these questions are difficult to find.

To help them find the answers we've organized International EDM/PDM Symposium 98. It will provide the information, experience, answers, opportunities and contacts that companies need if they are to effectively use EDM/PDM.

International EDM/PDM Symposium 98 has grown out of the EDM/PDM seminars and workshops run by the Engineering Data Management Newsletter. These evolved into the first ‘EDM/PDM Issues & Trends Workshop’ which was held in 1995 and the 2nd EDM/PDM Workshop held in 1996. The interactive and informal format of these events, mixing high-quality presentations, hard-working break-out sessions, group discussions and system functionality demonstrations, enabled participants to find out everything they needed to know. International EDM/PDM Symposium 98 is the first in a series of International EDM/PDM Symposia jointly organized by the Engineering Data Management Newsletter and ABB Corporate Research Center, Heidelberg, Germany.

To ensure the relevance and quality of International EDM/PDM Symposium 98 it is co-hosted by a group of companies from different industries and at different stages of EDM/PDM implementation. Their involvement ensures the relevance and quality of the Workshop.

On Tuesday September 22, 1998, the first day of International EDM/PDM Symposium 98, there will be three parallel tracks:

On Wednesday September 23, 1998, the second day of International EDM/PDM Symposium 98, there will be four parallel tracks:
There will be an exhibition of EDM/PDM systems on both days.

EDM/PDM systems are part of a company’s infrastructure. They are not going be changed every year. Many companies expect an EDM/PDM system to live at least 5 years, maybe more than 10 years, so they need to have a good idea about EDM/PDM systems and their use in the medium-term future. In the ‘5-Year EDM/PDM Vision (1998-2003)’ Symposium track, leading EDM/PDM system developers, systems integrators and users answer questions about where EDM/PDM is going.

The Symposium’s ‘EDM/PDM State-of-the-Art 1998’ track acknowledges that there’s so much hype about EDM/PDM vendors, systems and functionality that many managers and users find it difficult to know what is really available. This track provides answers to questions about the current state of EDM/PDM.

The ‘Management and Implementation of EDM/PDM’ track gets away from the technology. It answers questions about management issues and best EDM/PDM implementation practices. Sessions are led by people who’ve ‘been there and done it’.

The four parallel ‘Industry’ tracks on the second day are focused on the practical implementation and use of EDM/PDM within particular industries. The speakers are EDM/PDM practitioners from industry.
