As the CAD/CAM/CAE system becomes more important to the company, it becomes necessary to protect against loss of the system and to ensure that work can continue after a disaster. The method of controlling this recovery should be defined before the event, not as part of the disaster itself. The effect of, say, a fire should be considered in the light of other preparations that have been made throughout the company. It is hardly cost-effective to ensure that a standby CAD/CAM/CAE system is available for use with the data secured off site if the most likely disaster would destroy all the reference drawings, specifications, and other paperwork necessary to complete the task. |
