CAD/CAM/CAE output procedure

The quality of output from a CAD/CAM/CAE system is the same whatever the stage of the design. If an engineer sketches some ideas on CAD, the plot quality and presentation will be the same as that traditionally obtained from a tracing. In the manual process there is a single master document defining each part of the product. With CAD/CAM/CAE the item is defined by a computerized drawing and/or model which can be readily copied and modified by any user with access rights and used for plots that, at first glance, may be indistinguishable from the original data. It is therefore vitally important that all output be controlled and its status clearly indicated.

Scope
This procedure covers the provision of all CAD/CAM/CAE output.

Content
This procedure should contain the detailed steps required to produce all plots and files. The interface with other procedures controlling the use and checking of CAD/CAM/CAE output should be clearly identified.

Checklist
  • If the request is for a released plot or an NC file, is the data flag-identified to the system as complete and checked?
  • Check the plot for obvious errors before returning to the user, e.g., pen ran dry halfway through, or all text missing, etc.
  • Read NC files back into the system to check their content before they drive any machine.
