Data change control procedure

The fact that CAD/CAM/CAE data can be easily modified must not detract from the necessity for a formal change control process. The special importance of such control for CAD/CAM/CAE is that although any change to a three-dimensional model may be relatively simple, a large number of derived drawings, listings, and NC information, as well as output to linked systems such as ERP - could be affected. If this derived information is not updated and reissued consistently, the manufacturing process will suffer.

Scope
This procedure details the control of change to all released CAD/CAM/CAE data from any source.

Content
The method of reviewing, accepting, and implementing change to CAD/CAM/CAE data.

Checklist
  • Review change, and establish its impact on CAD/CAM/CAE data.
  • Estimate the project and financial implications.
  • Approve execution of change.
  • Change data at the highest level, progressively increasing the level of detail.
  • Identify all affected released documents and transmitted data files that require modification.
  • Schedule and perform the change to all derived data.
  • Release the changes.
