by Scott Cleveland Years ago, I noticed that when business is good for a company and they are flush with cash, they seldom look to be more efficient nor do they look to cut costs. That is why this saying hits home for me .... When times are good, it is important to cut costs. When times are bad, it is imperative. Today we are in a 'when times are bad' economy. Most companies will be looking at ways to cut costs without spending any money. However, sometimes you can spend a little to save a lot. Our Thoughts .... A good place to look for cost cutting options - your business processes. I see companies as a 'collection' of processes. Whether you are producing goods or services, there are processes in place to take the order, provide the goods or service and collect the money. Some of these processes are documented, most are not. Some of these processes are functioning properly, some are not. Some of these processes are expensive, some are not. Some of these processes are critical while some are not. By the time companies want to talk to us, they want to discuss 'their' critical process. Their critical process tends not to be functioning properly, it is expensive and usually it is a daily pain. Fixing this process usually saves them much more than the cost of the solution. For example: a critical process in a manufacturing company is their 'change control process'. Managing that critical business process has saved manufacturers as much as $1 million annually. We know that cost cutting is high on everyone's list, but many companies are also attempting to figure out how to do more work with less people. Process automation is a good way to achieve that objective. And, if you can do more work with less people, haven't you saved money (cut costs)? Your Thoughts....
