* Welcome * Welcome to 2PLM, an e-zine distributed about every two weeks. This issue includes :
This issue of 2PLM sees the launch of the Global PLM 2007 Survey. This collaborative survey of PLM has two objectives:
The survey is in two parts. The first part addresses the current situation of PLM, the second part looks towards the future. The first part of the PLM survey has been prepared on the basis of meetings and telephone discussions with 32 companies. Based on their input we have developed about twenty multiple-choice questions that can be answered quickly, and will lead to an overview of current PLM thought and practice. PLM Professionals in engineering and manufacturing companies can request a copy of the first questionnaire here. PLM Managers and PLM Directors often have many questions about how PLM is viewed in other companies, and the second part of the survey will give them the opportunity to get the answers. When returning the completed first part of the questionnaire, they will be able to propose questions for the second part of the questionnaire. After we have received these questions, we will compile the second part of the survey, and send it to all those who answered the first part. We expect that the second part will have more than twenty questions. After we've received the answers to the second part of the survey, we'll compile an overview, and send it to all those who participate. Survey answers will be treated as confidential. Names of participants will not be published.
* Moving Forward Faster with PLM * PLM Initiatives are enterprise-wide projects, and face the same kinds of problems as other company-wide activities. People in different parts of a company often have different views of PLM, different priorities for implementation, different requirements for applications, different vocabularies, etc. The result is that what appears to be a relatively small and simple project to implement PLM gradually gets larger and larger, and progress gets slower and slower. Project teams reinvent the wheel, raising questions that have already been asked and answered in hundreds of other PLM projects. Time goes by, and there are many discussions, but little progress. Time is wasted, money is wasted, opportunities are lost. An alternative is to jump-start the project by making everyone aware of what is already known about PLM. The Making Progress With PLM Manual was developed to help companies launch PLM Initiatives, develop PLM visions and strategies, and implement PLM plans. It supports PLM VPs, PLM Project Leaders, PDM Managers, CIOs, IS Managers, CAD Managers and others faced with the many questions, problems, challenges and opportunities of PLM - and looking for the best way forward. The Manual is available as a 101-page Word file, and a 204-slide PowerPoint file. It was developed with input from more than 100 PLM professionals, and is based on a thorough understanding of the current situation in manufacturing companies and recent trends in PLM development and use. It's full of knowledge, experience and advice that will help project teams make fast progress with PLM, and enable them to avoid wasting time and effort looking for, or reinventing, information that is already available. Delivery of the two files (.doc and .ppt) is electronic, making for easy cut-and-paste into reports, and easy inclusion in management presentations.
