* Welcome *
Welcome to 2PLM, an e-zine distributed about every two weeks.

* Making Progress with PLM *
In recent issues, such as the October 9 issue, we've mentioned examples - including information about related costs - concerning companies, such as Airbus and Sony, that have had problems with product development or product use this year.

It's been clear for many years that companies will need to develop increasingly complex products very quickly, manufacture parts world-wide on multiple sites, and support customers world-wide over many years. It's also been clear that, to meet these needs, companies need to deploy an integrated PLM infrastructure of processes, work methods, applications, data and human resources - and the corresponding organizational structure and metrics.

Often the eventual move to PLM will be provoked by a particular problem which threatens the existence of the company - or the future of its managers. Typical examples are very poor financial results, massive overrun on the development of a new product, or the loss of a key customer. Severe problems like these can force shareholders and top managers to take action.

To avoid such an extreme situation, it's important to get a good understanding of PLM. This can be achieved with resources such as:
