* Welcome * Welcome to 2PLM, an e-zine distributed about every two weeks. This issue includes :
PLMIG's Boston Workshop The Product Lifecycle Management Interest Group (PLMIG) announced results of the second Workshop in the PLM Benefits Reference Model (BRM) Project. The Workshop, held in Boston, MA on April 6-7, 2006 was organized with the help of PTC, one of the Founder Members of the project. Whereas the first Workshop, in London, developed ideas for the architecture and interfaces of a BRM, the Boston participants focused on its mechanics. They produced an integrated set of ideas for how a PLM Benefits Reference Model would be composed and would function. Despite the fact that the workshops were on different continents the two sets of results fit well together, indicating that there may be a single body of PLM thought that spans the USA and Europe. The London and Boston results will be combined in the next two weeks to produce an early skeleton of the Model that will be used as the Launch Phase continues. More information about the Boston PLM Benefits Workshop is available on the PLMIG's web site and from Roger Tempest.
PLM Benefits Survey In connection with the BRM Project, the PLMIG will be carrying out a series of short focused surveys addressing PLM benefits. Those who participate will received a copy of the collated results. If you would like to participate, please contact PLM BRM Survey. PLM Benefits : 1 Day Workshop To help companies understand how the PLM Benefits Reference Model applies to them, the PLMIG will run a series of 1 Day Workshops on company sites. More information is available on the PLMIG's web site and from 1 Day Workshop. PLM Benefits : Research Opportunities Creation and validation of the PLM Benefits Reference Model is expected to require significant involvement from academic and other research organizations. For more information, please contact BRM Research. * PLM State of the Art Report * The PLM State of the Art January 2006 Report is a concise, 66-page document describing the State of the Art of Product Lifecycle Management in January 2006. * Right Product, Right Time - Breakfast Briefing * Companies are being forced to accelerate product introduction to meet increasing demand from consumers for variety and choice, and are bringing more and more products to market, often with mixed success. Managing development costs, schedules, regulatory compliance, specification changes, market variables etc. whilst introducing winning products and creating an environment for innovation is a significant challenge. Improving Product Development with techniques such as Stage-Gate processing, Portfolio and Category management can reduce risk, speed time-to-market, improve success rates and support product strategy. Join us for a thought-provoking breakfast briefing (Thursday 27 April 2006, Café Royal, Regent Street, London) where John Stark, international PLM thought-leader and writer discusses the key success factors for new product development. Get a fresh perspective on reducing the risk and speeding the process of new product development. Mark Francis, from the Lean Enterprise Research Centre at Cardiff Business School, will provide an insight into product development within the UK food industry from the retailers' perspective. Since joining LERC in 1996 he has conducted research into Lean thinking, working with organisations such as Tesco, Bass, Unipart, BT, Sainsburys and Whitbread, and recently leading an NPD process improvement project with Asda.
