* Welcome * Welcome to this issue of 2PLM, an e-zine distributed every two weeks on a free subscription basis. * Progress of the PLM Benefits Reference Model Project * The PLM Interest Group (PLMIG) announced that PTC and UGS have confirmed participation as the first Founder Members in its collaborative multinational project to develop an industry-standard Benefits Reference Model for PLM. With other companies close to confirming participation, the detailed planning of the Launch Phase has begun, with the first workshops to be held at the beginning of 2006. These will define the details of what will be done and delivered during 2006, and agree on the project's rules and regulations. The PLM Benefits Reference Model will answer the question "what would be the benefits of PLM for a particular company in a particular industry in a particular situation?". The answer will be along the lines, "according to the generally-agreed, industry-standard PLM Benefits Reference Model, the benefits of PLM in that particular situation would be A, B, C, D ....". Availability of such a model will greatly reduce the time currently spent by companies in identifying and justifying their potential benefits from PLM. The Model will give results that a CEO or CFO can understand and accept easily and quickly, enabling rapid deployment of PLM, and rapid achieval of business benefits. More information is available on the PLMIG's web site at www.plmig.com and from Roger Tempest.
* Register Now for Tomorrow's PLM Web Seminar! * Last week's live Web Seminar on 'Overcoming the PLM Dilemma' drew 478 registrants from leading manufacturers around the world. It was the second in a three-part live Web Series entitled 'PLM: Understanding, Justifying and Realizing'. Among the subjects addressed was the 'PLM Dilemma' - on one hand, organizations recognize that PLM is essential and must be implemented, on the other hand, they find there are many seemingly unsurmountable obstacles in the way of implementation. According to an on-line poll carried out during the webinar, more than 70% of the participants recognized the existence of the PLM Dilemma in their environment. The final session in the series is planned for tomorrow, Tuesday December 13, 2006. Register and learn how industry leaders see PLM 2006. Tomorrow's session will start with a summary of previous sessions and a review of participant feedback and questions. Then it will take you through the process for your PLM strategy, plan, and implementation, discussing options on where to start, different approaches, PLM gains, problems to avoid, tasks to be addressed at different levels of the company, all leading to more successful implementation. It's not too late to join this session and there is no charge to attend. There's more detail and you can register - whether it's just to listen, or also to ask questions or send in questions - at www.softech.com/webseries/. |
