* Welcome * Welcome to this issue of 2PLM, an e-zine distributed every two weeks on a free subscription basis. * Progress of the PLM Benefits Reference Model Project * The PLM Interest Group (PLMIG) announced that the first company has confirmed participation as a Founder member in its collaborative multinational project to develop an industry-standard Benefits Reference Model for PLM. With several other companies close to confirming participation, the project may be formally launched this month or early next year. Interest in the project is worldwide, and has come not only from manufacturing companies, PLM product and service providers, and PLM researchers and academics, but also several governmental bodies. Three countries in Asia, as well as three in Europe, are discussing possible participation. It's becoming recognized that this is a 'win-win' project that will help everyone involved in PLM - users, product vendors, service providers, academics, etc. This week, Roger Tempest of the PLMIG will be at the ManuFuture 2005 Conference which is being held at Rolls-Royce, Derby, England, on Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th December 2005. He will be discussing the project with representatives from various commercial, government and research organizations. More information is available on the PLMIG's web site at www.plmig.com and from Roger Tempest.
* Register Now for Tomorrow's PLM Web Seminar! * Last week's live Web Seminar on 'Introduction to PLM' drew over 425 registrants from leading manufacturers around the world. It was the first in a three-part live Web Series entitled 'PLM: Understanding, Justifying and Realizing'. The two next sessions are planned for tomorrow, Tuesday December 6, and December 13, 2006. The survey of participants after the Webinar showed a high level of satisfaction, with over 90% intending to participate tomorrow. Questions and improvement suggestions from participants will be addressed at the start of tomorrow's session. In polling questions conducted during the first PLM Web seminar, 60 percent of the attendees stated that they have some level of corporate PLM strategy in preparation or are beginning to consider one. The results show awareness of PLM as a corporate initiative has greatly increased among manufacturers, small, medium, and large, in 2005. Manufacturers are coming to the conclusion that PLM is vital to their business strategy and can no longer be avoided without consequence to their competitiveness. It's not too late to join the remaining PLM Web Series sessions and there is no charge to attend. There's more detail and you can register - whether it's just to listen, or also to ask questions or send in questions - at www.softech.com/webseries/. |
