* Welcome * Welcome to this issue of 2PLM, an e-zine distributed every two weeks on a free subscription basis. * Plans Announced for Live PLM Web Series Presented by John Stark * We have had several requests to John Stark Associates to put together a seminar series on the topic of PLM for companies contemplating a PLM strategy or expanding an existing one. Together in sponsorship with PLM solution provider, SofTech, we are bringing that seminar to your desktop in a live, 3-part PLM Web Series beginning the end of November. * Why PLM? Why do it now? * This Live PLM Web Series is designed to help educate, eliminate excuses, and overcome the roadblocks to a successful PLM Initiative. We will provide suggestions on how to approach your PLM strategy (bottom up, top down, feasibility study, PLM pilot, and more), to help you lay out a clear, concise PLM Vision, Strategy and Plan - adjusted to your reality - and designed to get your PLM Initiative off the ground - and to keep it heading to successful implementation and use.
Whether you have some element of PLM implemented in your business or not, this Web Series will be advantageous. Every company faces pressure to reduce development cycle times, lower product costs, improve quality, boost product revenues and add to the bottom line. PLM holds those advantages, if done right and taken full advantage of. Each session is complemented with guest speakers from a variety of industries that have driven their PLM initiatives, implemented, and achieved benefit with PLM. Here's the upcoming schedule: Part I - PLM Introduction/Overview November 29, 2005 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM EST / 8:00 - 9:00 AM PST Part II - Overcoming the PLM Dilemma December 6, 2005 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM EST / 8:00 - 9:00 AM PST Part III - PLM: Vision & Strategy to Implementation & Use December 13, 2005 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM EST / 8:00 - 9:00 AM PST Approximately 1 hour per session. There's more detail and you can register at www.softech.com/webseries/ * Making Progress with PLM in 2005 * by John Stark Another seven PLM Q&As have been added to the 'Making Progress with PLM in 2005' Manual, taking the total to 76. They include: - What's more important - PLM or 'Digital Product'? - What's the first thing for a new PLM Manager to understand about PLM? - Why do people say that Innovation is only 20% of PLM? - What's the PLM market size? - What are the requisites for a good PLM consultant? - Should we draw the product lifecycle as a straight line or a circle? - What are the 3 most fundamental concepts of the PLM paradigm?
The 'Making Progress' Manual aims to help the individual PLM project manager move forward in the sometimes difficult environment of a PLM project. Of course, today's PLM project manager already has the opportunity to access thousands of web-based sources of information on each topic in the scope of PLM. That's great but, as can be seen from the questions we are asked, the mass of information may mask the essentials, making it difficult to see the forest for the trees and to develop a clear, coherent picture of PLM and the PLM Initiative. The Manual follows on from the Product Lifecycle Management: Paradigm for 21st Century Product Realisation book and builds on basic concepts such as : - PLM is the business activity of managing products across their lifecycle - PLM manages the product from cradle to grave across the Extended Enterprise - PLM is holistic. It involves applications, people, processes, data, work methods, etc. - The ultimate objective of PLM is to increase the value of the product portfolio For more information on 'Making Progress with PLM in 2005' contact John Stark. PLM Benefits Reference Model Preparation of the proposed 'PLM Benefits Reference Model' project is making good progress. The project, which is being led by the PLMIG, will develop an industry-agreed standard PLM Benefits Model to help everyone involved in PLM move forward faster. A Group of Founder Members is being assembled to drive the project forward. They will represent the different constituencies in the world of PLM. Discussions are taking place to identify locations for the kick-off meetings. For more information, contact Roger Tempest of the PLMIG. |
