In response we developed a To-PLM Map for them. This is a map which shows them where they currently are in terms of PLM, and helps them see how they can make progress to more complete lifecycle management of their products. The latter part of the previous sentence can also be written as "how to get to PLM", "how to achieve PLM", or "how to implement PLM". The basis of the map is the 3 x 3 matrix, or window, shown below. Before describing the contents and their positioning, a few words about the axes. The horizontal axis shows the span of an initiative (such as CAD, PDM or PLM) across the product lifecycle. Up the vertical axis are the number of components (such as processes, applications, standards, techniques, etc.) addressed by the initiative.
The To-PLM Map helps companies position their current PLM components, identify missing components, and define the way forward to PLM. The To-PLM Map, and other ways of achieving PLM, will be discussed at the PLM Interest Group (PLMIG) meeting in Zurich, Switzerland on May 26, 2004. Details. If you have a view about the way to PLM, and would like to participate, please contact Roger Tempest. |
