- Welcome Page 2 - Update Page 3 - News Page 4 - Brief lines | Welcome to this issue of 2PLM, an e-zine distributed every two weeks on a free subscription basis. * PLM Book sells out in 4 Months * Springer, the publishers of Product Lifecycle Management: Paradigm for 21st Century Product Realisation, have announced a reprint - the first print run of September 2004 having sold out. One of the main factors driving sales is that the book addresses Product Lifecycle Management as a business activity, bringing it into the mainstream of corporate activity. This comes at a time of enormous opportunity for manufacturing companies. Globalization, new technologies and rapidly growing markets have created the conditions for them to greatly increase sales of products and services. PLM provides a way for companies to seize these opportunities. It focuses on the management of products across their lifecycles, enabling better development and management of new and existing products. What PLM ultimately does for an organization is to drive top-line revenue growth. Looking at Product Lifecycle Management as a business activity is a highly innovative new approach, differing greatly from the status quo. Over the last 30 years, companies have focused on all sorts of issues such as quality, customer satisfaction, and the supply chain - but not on the product. After decades of neglect, PLM puts the focus on the product. The new paradigm is made necessary by changes in the business environment, made possible by new technologies. The book gives PLM a holistic treatment. There's a lot of factual, explanatory material showing why PLM has emerged, what it is, what it will lead to, how to approach its implementation, etc. - all highly useful for anyone working in the PLM area. Some readers have found particular chapters to be useful:
![]() Product Lifecycle Management emerged in the early years of this decade, and the Principles of PLM Strategy are a first attempt to identify the strategic constants - the principles of PLM that remain valid in different industrial, business and technological environments. The Table of Contents of Product Lifecycle Management: Paradigm for 21st Century Product Realisation can be viewed here. * PLM Best Practice * With PLM getting increasing management attention, corporate managers are looking to rate their PLM activities against Best Practice, and find out how to improve performance. The first PLM Best Practice Forum will be held in Oxford, England on February 9, 2005. It provides a unique opportunity to learn about current PLM Best Practice. For more information, contact Roger Tempest. The Proceedings of the Forum will be published, and will provide a snapshot of the status of PLM Best Practice in early 2005. * PLM Research 2005 * The initial PLM Research 2005 meeting was held in Brussels, Belgium on February 2-3, 2005. The next PLM Research 2005 meeting is tentatively scheduled for the end of April, 2005 in Gothenburg, Sweden. For details, contact Roger Tempest. |
