Among the many issues that the Workshop participants (users, service providers, vendors, integrators) addressed was that of finding a way to benchmark PLM given its wide scope, the many different definitions and views of PLM, the many issues it addresses, and its numerous processes and application systems. They devised a modular, customizable approach so that the resulting Benchmarking Handbook (which contains several hundred PLM-focused questions) can be used by a company in any industry to benchmark its PLM performance with any number of companies in the same industry, or other industries. A simple method for identifying potential benchmark partners was also identified, and will be used in pilot benchmarks. For more details about the PLM Benchmarking Handbook, contact Roger Tempest. * PLM book for your career * Different people have different views of PLM. This is often because they are looking at different islands of product-related activity. These islands include CAD (an island of product definition), PDM (an island of product data management), product development management, product liability, management of products after release, product portfolio management, product management, product change management, etc. These areas of product-related activities are seen as islands because companies managed them that way in the 20th Century. PLM, a 21st Century paradigm, joins up these islands along the product lifecycle, from cradle to grave. PLM may not seem important to you today, but it probably will do in the next few years. Who will lead the introduction of PLM in your company? Who will manage it? Read the recently published "Product Lifecycle Management: Paradigm for 21st Century Product Realisation" and prepare the next step of your career. Review current availability here. ![]() * PLM - The Next Frontier * "Product Lifecycle Management: Paradigm for 21st Century Product Realisation" provides the most complete collection of PLM knowledge currently available in one publication. Reading it is a necessary starting point for any company's PLM Initiative. As well as reading the PLM book, it may be useful to attend a PLM workshop or PLM seminar. "PLM - The Next Frontier" is a PLM Workshop/Seminar presented by the author of "Product Lifecycle Management: Paradigm for 21st Century Product Realisation". It is regularly updated to take account of evolving PLM practice and theory. Details. PLM articles Thanks to readers for informing us of articles about PLM in other publications:
