- Welcome Page 2 - Update Page 3 - News Page 4 - Brief lines | Welcome to this issue of 2PLM, an e-zine distributed every two weeks on a free subscription basis. * PLM Forum * In the August 4 issue we mentioned that some PLM users and vendors had asked us to help set up a neutral, non-profit PLM Interest Group in which all members of the PLM community can work together to support the development and use of PLM. A lot of interest has been shown in the idea with the result that there is now a confirmed location (Oxford, England) and a firm date (September 23) for the first one-day meeting. The entire day is being organized to generate a broad consensus of opinion about the role and structure of the PLM Interest Group. In the morning, presentations will cover the background and set the scene. The afternoon will start with proposals for a Charter and implementation plan followed by an open forum debate. At the end of the day participants will receive a structured feedback pack which will be used to co-ordinate planning for the next stage. The Oxford PLM Forum The Oxford Forum is not intended to be a formal event with keynote speakers and parallel seminar tracks. It's being designed so that the attendees can just talk, think and work together with the objective of moving ahead fast with the Interest Group. The morning session will set the scene for the debate by covering the background to the situation as it is now, including "Different Views of PLM" and "Reasons for a PLMIG". It's well known that there are many different views about PLM, and there will be many views about what a PLM Interest Group should be and should do. We're looking to get as many views as possible and will allow everyone to make a short and simple presentation to make sure we get good coverage of the different views and ideas. All participants will be free to speak for 5 minutes on either or both subjects :
So far there are participants representing users, vendors, developers and universities from 8 countries. A few comments from people proposing to participate :
Why join the PLM Interest Group? PLM is one of the most important issues facing many manufacturing companies in the early 21st Century. They currently have questions such as : "what will PLM look like? ; what opportunities will PLM give us? ; what's our PLM strategy? ; what's our PLM plan?" PLM is one of the most important issues facing many companies developing and providing products and services in the PLM area. Companies such as : CAD/CAM/CAE and PDM vendors ; ECM vendors; CRM, SCM and ERP vendors ; network providers ; hardware providers ; system integrators ; management consultants. They are asking questions such as "what will our customers need? ; what will that mean for us? ; how will PLM and ERP fit together? ; what should we develop? ; what should we acquire?" The PLM Interest Group brings together representatives of manufacturing companies, technology developers and vendors, research institutes, academic organisations; system integrators and consultants. Together they address the issues of PLM, questions like those asked above. Thought leaders in PLM, they will benefit from being first to put PLM into practice.
