Are PDM and PLM the same thing? No. PLM means Product Lifecycle Management. Whereas PDM is Product Data Management. "Lifecycle" and "Data" have different meanings in the English language. Does PLM stop at the end of the Product Development Process? No. PLM means Product Lifecycle Management. Just as there are (according to Shakespeare) many ages in the life of a man, there are many processes in a product's lifecycle. Stopping PLM at the end of the Product Development Process would be like stopping life before the whining school-boy becomes the lover. Why is there so much confusion about PLM? PLM will become a huge market. Many vendors would like a large slice of this market. Currently no vendor has all the components. Nevertheless many vendors signal their intentions to be PLM vendors. |

Agile Software Corporation announced the acquisition of certain customer assets and intellectual property of privately-held MS2, Inc., provider of the product portfolio management solution, MS2 Accelerate. Details Hummingbird Ltd. announced the acquisition of Valid Information Systems Limited. Details Mentor Graphics Corp. announced that it has acquired Alcatel's complete line of Ethernet and media access control (MAC) IP. Details * Financial * Documentum announced preliminary financial results for its second quarter ended June 30, 2003. The company anticipates revenue for the second quarter of approximately $68 million, an increase of 26% over revenue of $54 million reported for the second quarter of 2002. Details Manugistics Group, Inc. reported results for its fiscal first quarter ended May 31, 2003. Total revenue for the first quarter was up slightly sequentially to $65.6 million compared to $65.5 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2003. Total revenue decreased 12 percent from the prior year quarter. Details Sopheon plc announced its preliminary unaudited results for the year to 31 December 2002. Revenue for the year was £12.4m. Details Verity, Inc. reported financial results for its fourth quarter and fiscal year ended May 31, 2003. Verity's revenues for its fourth quarter ended May 31, 2003 were $29.2 million, representing a 5% sequential increase over third quarter revenues of $27.8 million, and a 12% increase from revenues of $26.1 million for the same period last year.
