Welcome to this issue of 2PDM - the Product Data Management and Product Development Management e-zine. It contains a survey of the current status of EDM/PDM installations. There are four stages of EDM/PDM progress. After defining these stages we'll ask a question we'd like you to answer. And after that, you'll find the latest EDM/PDM news. *Survey* The first EDM/PDM systems appeared about 1983. That's 15 years ago. It seemed useful to see how much progress companies have made in getting to the EDM/PDM goal. Useful for user companies to benchmark their progress. Useful for vendors to understand the status of user companies. There's just one question for you to answer, so please take a few minutes to participate. The results of the survey will be published in the next issue of 2PDM on Monday October 26. No information about individual answers to the survey will be published. We will not mention the name of anyone who participates or the name of their company. Replies are confidential and will not be made available to third parties. In case you want to know more about us, please visit our Web site. OK? Now you know the rules, you may like to check out the 2PDM file - it's in very basic HTML so you can look at the source code to see what's there. And finally, we remind you there's no charge for reading 2PDM - or for participating in the survey. *Four Stages of EDM/PDM status* Companies go through four stages of EDM/PDM progress. The four stages are: Stage 1 - Traditional ; Stage 2 - Awakening ; Stage 3 - Adapting ; Stage 4 - Modern *Stage 1 - Traditional* Companies at this stage have characteristics such as:
